Camino de Santiago

The girls and I went on "pilgrimage" to "Santiago de Compostela" to gather shells to sell at the upcoming medieval Christmas festival.

After we brought our shells home, began the cleaning an preparing process!  We had practiced this during our Ocean discovery year, so it was fun to put those old skills to good use!

First we rinsed.

Then boiled and simmered for a few hours.

After they cooled, we soaked them in a solution and the girls went to work scrubbing every nook and cranny.

After scrubbing, we laid them out on the patio to bake in the sun for a day.  When they were fully dried, we shellacked them with a shiny finish.  All ready for "sale"!
