Mission

Learning about monks and Franciscans sparked a desire for us to see some places where they've lived and worked. Seeing as their lifestyle didn't change much from the middle ages to when these missions were built it was a perfect fit!

Saint Francis!

I can't believe I forgot to take a picture of it, but in the building above, they also had a a large medieval, illumniated hymnbook, like the one we had just read about in Door in the Wall! 

We even got to meet a Franciscan!  He actually came out to sweep up some pebbles that the littlest ones had scattered on the walkway...oops!  The docent in the gift shop said  they NEVER come out (outside of their specific teaching appointments) and it was a real treat for us to meet one.
